Richard Theodore Greener (January 30, 1844 – May 2,1922) achieved MANY First in his lifetime. He was the first African-American graduate of Harvard College (1870) and dean of the Howard University School of Law (1878-1880). Mr. Greener accepted the professorship of mental and moral philosophy at the University of South Carolina in October 1873, where he was the university’s first African-American faculty member.
